The reason is because a number of these shoes actually perform better than volleyball shoes for certain positions on the court.

There’s also a much bigger selection of shoes that look way cooler too!

I’ve personally worn basketball shoes on the volleyball court for a number of years now and know exactly what to look for.

For those of you who want more information on how I selected these shoes, I’ll explain in further detail at the end of the article.

But for now, let’s get into my list of the best basketball shoes for volleyball in 2024!

11 Best Basketball Shoes For Volleyball In 2024 - Volleyball Vault (5)

These kicks are well known for their exceptional cushioning system, which makes them incredibly comfortable.

In volleyball that translates to impact protection which is one of the most important things for anyone doing a lot of jumping.

The Litestrike cushion makes them feel incredible to jump in.

The other great thing about the Dame 7s is that they’re insanely cheap! You should be able to find a pair for under $100.

This shoe easily wins the best value basketball shoe for volleyball.

They’re great for wide feet and are a unisex shoe coming in a variety of colorways, making them great for all volleyball hitters.

Recommended Use

The Dame 7s are a great option particularly for middle blockers and opposites or really any hitter who doesn’t want to spend a ton of money on volleyball shoes!

The Good

Great shock absorption and very responsive cushion.

Mid top design offers great ankle support.

You won’t find a better basketball shoe for volleyball under $100!

The Bad

Slightly bulky and boot-like, perhaps not a great fit for setters and liberos.

Best Basketball Shoes For Volleyball – Runner up

Heralded as one of the greatest basketball shoes of all time, the Nike KD14 functions exceptionally well as a volleyball shoe for front court players.

This is my sister’s absolute favorite volleyball shoe of all time and she’s been wearing her current pair for over 3 years!

The traction/grip is one of the biggest stand outs for this shoe, making it an awesome option for outside hitters, opposites, middles, and setters.

As far as cushioning goes, the KD14 is a massive improvement upon most shoes – you can really tell the difference between a budget shoe and a high performer like the KD14 from its midsole tech stack.

One little pet peeve of mine is the strap… It can make the shoe difficult to lace up, but it’s not a big issue.

Some people actually think it’s great because it improves lockdown support through the midfoot.

The KD14 is also a unisex shoe available in a variety of colorways and is suitable for wide feet.

Recommended Use

The KD14 is a fantastic volleyball shoe for virtually all positions. I probably wouldn’t recommend these for liberos but any other position on court will love this shoe.

The Good

Incredible cushioning system makes them ideal for middle blockers and opposite hitters.

Superior traction and responsiveness to comparable shoes.

This is my sister’s (who is our head product tester and national level setter) favorite volleyball shoe of all time!

The Bad

Velcro strap can get a little annoying when lacing up.

Definitely on the more expensive side.

Premium Shoe

Nike Kobe 6

They’re the best basketball shoes for volleyball on the market, it’s as simple as that. They do come at a high price, there’s no denying that, but you won’t find a better combination of bounce, cushioning, traction and comfort!

Best Basketball Shoes for Volleyball

The Kobe 6s are some of the best basketball shoes overall, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’re the best basketball shoes for volleyball (in my opinion, of course).

When I write reviews, I usually talk about the good things first, but I’ll make an exception in this case. The bad thing about Kobe 6’s is that they’re very expensive, which is why I call them premium basketball shoes for volleyball. They’re pretty much the best thing you can get, but that won’t be an option if you’re on a tight budget.

Another bad thing is that they’re not a good fit for wide-footed players and outdoor use, but since most volleyball is played indoors, that shouldn’t be a problem.

That’s where we end with the bad stuff and start with the good stuff! I’ve worn them, and I can say that the best thing about them is their lightness. You would not believe how feather-light these shoes are, up to the point of forgetting you even have them on.

The traction on these shoes is great and you’ll need very little wiping. This comes as no surprise because we all know that the impact of shoe traction on basketball and volleyball performance can be massive, which is why designers paid special attention to it.

Another important thing I have to point out is their cushioning, which is foam-based. Overall, if I could wear any basketball shoes for volleyball, these are the shoes I’d always choose (rhyme not intended).

These volleyball-specific features in basketball shoe design make this the absolute best basketball shoe for volleyball!

These usually sell for around $80-$100, so they’re great for back court specialists who want to save a few bucks.

Recommended Use

Kobe 6 shoes fit all positions on the volleyball pitch, but they’re especially good for outside and opposite hitters!

The Good

Very light and won’t wear you down!

Incredible cushioning.

Great traction with minimal wiping.

The Bad

Very expensive.

Might be a bad fit for wide-footed players.

Not a good fit for outdoor volleyball.

Best Budget

Best Budget Basketball Shoe For Volleyball

Finally we have a shoe for the liberos who have been neglected thus far on my list.

This shoe is far lighter than all of the other shoes in this article, making it highly responsive and perfect for both liberos and setters who may need to sprint after volleyballs from time to time.

The cushioning is quite rudimentary but this is fine as back court players don’t do a lot of jumping and don’t have as much need for shock absorption.

These usually sell for around $80-$100, so they’re great for back court specialists who want to save a few bucks.

Recommended Use

For both liberos and setters on a budget, it’s difficult to go past the Immortalities!

The Good

Extremely affordable retailing at around the $100 mark.

Low-to-the-ground feel is ideal for back court players.

Super responsive and lightweight. These shoes make you feel extremely connected to the court.

The Bad

Pretty average cushioning system, so not ideal for anyone doing a large amount of spiking.

Note: These shoes retail primarily via Amazon, as they’re no longer selling through the official Nike USA website. You should be able to find other local retailers near you with a simple Google search.

Another Budget Friendly

11 Best Basketball Shoes For Volleyball In 2024 - Volleyball Vault (9)

Nike Precision 5

They leave a lot to be desired when you compare them to Kobe 6s or the KD14s, but they’re still great shoes overall and something you don’t want to miss at the prices they’re going for right now.

Another Budget-Friendly Basketball Shoes for Volleyball

I’ve reviewed another budget-friendly shoe option for you. Just because you’re on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t have nice things!

Nike Precision 5 basketball shoes offer, more than anything, great traction and weight at a reasonable price. They’re one of the lightest models on this list and you’ll forget you’re wearing them.

The materials they use are reasonably long-lasting, so you don’t have to worry about your shoes falling apart after a few months of playing.

However, these shoes are the definition of ‘it works, but it ain’t pretty’. The design could be a lot better, and the cushioning isn’t great either. That’s exactly what makes them a budget shoe, though – they get the job done even if they’re not anything special.

Recommended Use

They’re a great fit for any position on the court.

The Good

Very affordable at current prices.

Great traction.

Very light in comparison to other basketball shoes.

Durable.

The Bad

The design isn’t impressive, there are plenty of cooler looking shoes.

Cushioning isn’t that comfortable.

Best For Hitters

11 Best Basketball Shoes For Volleyball In 2024 - Volleyball Vault (10)

Nike Lebron 18

Nike’s most premium shoe line has created one of the most comfortable, supportive, and springy shoes money can buy with the Lebron 18s.

Best Basketball Shoe For Volleyball Hitters

Like the KD14s, the Lebron 18s have one of the most advanced cushioning systems in the industry, making these perfect for both middle blockers and opposites who need that extra impact protection.

They don’t have the greatest lateral stability, so not ideal for outside hitters who do a fair bit more passing and digging than middles and opposites.

With an air max cushion unit in the midsole, this is the ultimate option for opposite hitters who are primarily concerned with jumping high when spiking and blocking.

The Lebron 18s are made from premium materials and are highly durable, but only if playing indoors. The tread on the outsole won’t last long outdoors.

But you’ll definitely get more than just a couple seasons out of them if you play on indoor courts and take good care of them.

Recommended Use

For spikers looking for maximum bounce, the Lebron 18s are some of the best wheels you can get!

The Good

Most ridiculously bouncy shoes to jump in, awesome for spiking and blocking!

Fantastic shock absorption and ankle support.

The Bad

Lateral movements aren’t the best because of the really thick heel, so not the best option for liberos and probably setters also.

This is one of the most expensive shoes on this list!

Also Great For Hitters

Adidas Dame 8

The Dame 8s are my current favorite shoe to wear, period. They’ve got massively improved cushioning compared to the Dame 7s but are still really affordable.

Another Great Basketball Shoe For Volleyball Spikers

I’ve been testing out the Dame 8s over the past few months and they’ve quickly become my favorite shoes to wear for almost every purpose…

11 Best Basketball Shoes For Volleyball In 2024 - Volleyball Vault (12)

The excessive internal padding combined with the protruding internal heel counter make this the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn.

They honestly feel very different to the Dame 7s: the Dame 8s have a much softer and bouncier cushion in them and are an absolute delight to jump and land in.

I feel super secure wearing these on court and highly recommend them for any spiker: outside, opposite, or middle blocker!

Recommended Use

This shoe is the perfect option for anyone after better cushioning than the Dame 7s that doesn’t want to spend hundreds on the Lebron 18s!

The Good

Extremely secure and supportive fit.

The cushioning setup feels like you’re walking on pillows!

Adequate ankle support is ideal for spikers jumping and landing around the net.

Still very affordable compared to alternatives.

The Bad

After wearing these for a while, I still can’t think of anything I don’t like about them!

11 Best Basketball Shoes For Volleyball In 2024 - Volleyball Vault (13)

Nike PG 6

Bouncing, which is just as important in basketball as it is in volleyball, is the biggest prospect of these shoes. They’re ideal for hitters and middles as they’ll have you reaching the skies.

Buy Now

We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.

Nike’s PG6 offer great bounce, which makes them a great choice for hitters and middle blockers, the positions that jump the most. In their design, Nike used specialized rubber to maximize the kinetic energy you use when you jump.

The rubber on the soles also provides great traction, so you won’t need much wiping. The fit itself is a point of personal preference, but I have to commend them on the support the shoes provide.

There are a few negative things I have to point out too.

First of all, the shoes are on the narrower side. They’re not terribly narrow, so some wide-footed players can wear them comfortably, but I’d be lying if I said they’re ideal size-wise.

Secondly, these shoes aren’t long-lasting. Although they’re great for bouncing, a lot of users report the sole rubber and foam wearing out after about 9 months of constant use. This is why they’re not a good choice for someone who plays volleyball a few times a week – you’ll wear them off very quickly.

Just like most other shoes on this list, they’re not a good fit for outdoor volleyball.

It sounds like I just said a lot of bad things, but keep in mind that if you’re planning on using the Nike PG6s as performance-enhancing basketball shoes for volleyball games, they’re still a great choice, you just can’t wear them every day.

Recommended Use

I’d recommend them to hitters and middle blockers who don’t play volleyball on an everyday basis because of durability issues.

The Good

Great bounce and cushioning.

Great traction and support.

The Bad

Slightly narrow (although not very narrow, so some wide-footed players can still wear them).

Durability issues with foam and rubber (usually bottoms out after less than a year of constant use).

Best Basketball Shoes For Liberos & Setters

The Li-Ning All City line has produced some of the coolest looking basketball shoes of all time.

I believe these particular shoes also have perfect design characteristics for outside hitters and setters.

They feel pretty low to the ground and are extremely responsive with amazing traction – making life really easy for outsides when passing the volleyball.

They’ve also got a good amount of bounce and solid lateral support, making them more than good enough for jumping in around the net.

I think these shoes really shine for liberos and setters who want a low-to-the-ground feeling shoe with excellent responsiveness.

Both the All City 9 and 10s are excellent – they come in a range of awesome colors and are great for wide feet!

Recommended Use

Great, premium option for back court players (as well as outsides) who didn’t like the look of the Immortalities.

The Good

Cushioning setup is on the better side: bounce and impact protection is on point.

Great choice for anyone who prefers a lower to the ground shoe.

Great responsiveness allowing for lots of quick lateral movements (important in the back court).

The Bad

Could definitely be a little cheaper…

Note: Li-Ning’s official store is on Amazon, however you can find other retailers with a simple Google search. Stock and colorways may be extremely limited outside of the Amazon store.

WOW 10 – Comfortable Basketball Shoes for Volleyball Courts

The WOW 10s, or Way of Wade 10s if you want to use the full name, are the most comfortable shoes on this list.

They check all the boxes of features to look for in a volleyball-friendly basketball shoe, especially if you’re looking for comfort. The cushioning is their best quality by far and you feel like you’re walking on a cloud when you wear them. They’re high shoes, providing a lot of support for the ankles, while there’s also a low-top version if you’re interested in that.

Sizing is just right, they’ll fit both wide-footed and narrow-footed players, which is something thousands of people keep mentioning online.

Li-Ning Way of Wade 10 (WoW 10) Performance Review / Report Card
byu/EfficientZone inBBallShoes

These shoes are a godsend for wide-footed volleyball players.

The traction is amazing, the materials are long-lasting and they won’t rip apart easy, while the design, I must say, is mind blowing.

There are only two potentially bad things I can point out. First of all, they’re expensive, but since they’re some of the best basketball shoes for volleyball on the market, think of them as an investment.

Secondly, they’re terrible outdoor shoes – I don’t recommend buying them if you play volleyball on an outdoor court.

Nike KD3 – Best New Basketball Shoes for Volleyball

11 Best Basketball Shoes For Volleyball In 2024 - Volleyball Vault (15)

The Kevin Durant line is a staple of Nike’s basketball shoes, and the KD3s that got released in 2023 (Nike Zoom KD3 “Easy Money” if you want the full name) are here to usher in the KD4s, expected to be released in 2024.

They’re the newest shoes on this list and to be honest, there’s not much I can tell you about them that we don’t already know. They come with a new design, but that seems to be the only major difference between these shoes and older models.

KD3s are known for their comfortable fit and durability, but more is left to be desired in terms of traction because some sliding is known to occur (although I have to point out that horizontal body movement and quick stops are much more in basketball than in volleyball, so this wouldn’t be as apparent of an issue in volleyball).

In that sense, these shoes could have some crossover appeal: they’re basketball shoes that excel in volleyball play.

Recommended Use

A good fit for amateur players at any position, but I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone seriously playing volleyball.

The Good

A cool new design.

Very comfortable and durable.

The freshest shoes on the market.

The Bad

Possible traction issues.

They’re expensive because they’re a new release.

Final Verdict?

For those of you not looking to spend too much money, the Giannis Immortality (for setters and liberos) or the Dame 7s (for attackers) are going to be your best options.

For the middle blockers who want maximum spring and support, go for the Dame 8s or Lebron 18s.

For opposite hitters in the same boat, I’d pick any of the above or the KD14s.

And for outside hitters and setters, I’d also seriously consider the Li-Ning All City 9s or 10s.

If you’re still not sure, be sure to check out my other volleyball shoe roundup articles for more ideas, or read on to see why I chose these particular shoes.

What To Look For When Picking A Basketball Shoe For Volleyball

The most important thing when shopping for basketball shoes as a volleyballer is to be super aware of what movements you perform on court.
A middle blocker performs a very different set of movements to a libero or setter.
As such, their shoes should reflect this.

Be Aware Of Positional Differences

Middle blockers and opposites don’t do anywhere near as much defending or passing as outside hitters or liberos, so their shoes don’t need to be quite as responsive and lightweight.

But they’re spending most of their time on court blocking and spiking, which means they need additional impact protection, cushioning, and lateral support.

Setters are a good mix of both and therefore can pick from a wider range of shoes.

In the past I’ve written extensively on exactly what the important aspects of volleyball shoes are, so click here to find out more.
