Mass. woman begins testing the 28-day 'Wall Pilates' challenge (2024)

ALL STARTED WITH A PIECE OF TAPE. WHERE’S MY BELLY BUTTON? IT’S LOST IN THE FAT. NOT EVERYONE WOULD BE WILLING TO DO THIS ON TV. BUT TORRANCE BROWN ISN’T ONE TO SHY AWAY FROM A CHALLENGE. THIS MOM AND BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR HAS FIVE CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS WITH THE BOSTON RENEGADES, A WOMEN’S PRO FOOTBALL TEAM. SO WHEN WE WERE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO SEE IF THE WALL PILATES CHALLENGE COULD REALLY FLATTEN ABS AND ERASE BELLY FAT IN JUST A MONTH, SHE WAS MORE THAN GAME MEASUREMENTS INCLUDED. I BELIEVE IN MEASUREMENTS. I BELIEVE IN PICTURES OVER THE SCALE BECAUSE THE SCALE REGISTERS TOTAL BODY AND YOUR FAT AND YOUR LEAN MUSCLE MASS CAN CHANGE. THE SCALE DOESN’T TELL US EVERYTHING WITH EVERYTHING MEASURED AND RECORDED. IT WAS TIME TO GET TO WORK. LET’S SET YOU UP AT THE WALL. TORRANCE SETS UP HER IPHONE WITH THE BETTER ME APP. THAT’S THE PILATES CHALLENGE WE’RE TESTING WITH REGINA HAYES FROM THE YMCA IN WEST ROXBURY WATCHING HER FORM, SHE DOES THE FIRST CUSTOMIZED WORKOUT, WATCHING THE SCREEN, THEN MIRRORING THE MOVEMENTS STAND TALL WITH YOUR STANCE AT HIP WIDTH APART. WE’RE BACK TO THE FLOOR. REACH THROUGH CRUNCH. THIS IS HARDER THAN DOING A CRUNCH ON THE FLOOR WITHOUT BENDING YOUR BODY KICK SIDEWAYS WITH YOUR LEFT LEG. WHEN THAT FOOT COMES UP, ONLY GO SO FAR AS YOU CAN WITHOUT THAT TOE POINT TURNING ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER. THE FIRST WORKOUT IS IN THE BOOKS. HOW DOES TORRANCE FEEL? IT WAS FINE OUTSIDE OF THE KNEE BEND THAT I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THAT DOESN’T LOOK EASY, RIGHT? LOOK EASY. IT’S NOT EASY, RIGHT? BUT SHE’S DOING IT. TORRANCE HAS BEEN DOING HER WALL. PILATES WORKOUTS EVERY DAY, AND SHE AND REGINA, WHO’S WATCHING AND DOING ALL OF THAT WITH HER, TAKING MEASUREMENTS AS WELL. SO NEXT THURSDAY AT 4:00, WE’RE GOING TO HIT THE TWO WEEK MARK. Last week, we introduced you to Torrance Brown and Regina Hayes, the Massachusetts woman and her trainer who are determined to put one of the hottest social media fitness trends to the test.The 28-day Wall Pilates Challenge is hard to miss on TikTok and Instagram – but does it work? Not everyone would be willing to embark on this challenge publicly, but Brown isn't one to shy away from a challenge. She’s a mom and breast cancer survivor with five championship rings from the women’s pro football team, the Boston Renegades. So when we were looking for someone to see if the Wall Pilates Challenge could really flatten abs and erase belly fat in just a month, she was more than game, measurements included.>> Previous story: Setting up for the challenge“I believe in measurements,” she said. “I believe in pictures over the scale because the scale registers total body, and your fat and your lean muscle mass can change. That scale doesn't tell us everything.”With everything measured and recorded, it was time to get to work. Brown set up her iPhone with the Better Me app -- that's the Pilates challenge we're testing.With Hayes from the Parkway Community YMCA in West Roxbury watching her form, she did the first customized workout, watching the screen and then mirroring the movements.“This is harder than doing a crunch on the floor!" Brown exclaimed, feet planted firmly on the wall.About 15 minutes later, her first workout was in the books, and Brown said she felt fine, with the exception of one knee bend that was giving her trouble.Since her first workout, Brown has been doing her Wall Pilates workouts every day, and she and Hayes are taking measurements.
